Individual Therapy

Treating:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Grief/Loss
  • Trauma
  • Family functioning/parenting/step-parenting/blended families
  • Life-span developmental issues
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (adults)
  • Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation
  • Self Esteem
  • Stress and coping
  • Management of chronic illness
  • Career problems — job related stress
  • Weight management/obesity and other disordered eating
  • Issues of aging

I engage with the client with the goal of creating an atmosphere in which the clients can communicate their feelings with the certainty that they are being understood rather than judged.

Therapy gives the client a safe environment in which to explore emotions and behaviors that may be frightening to approach, painful to feel, and difficult to change.

I am directive in giving honest and direct feedback to the client; I don’t just listen passively. In a relationship of mutual respect, we are honest with each other. I work with the patient to establish treatment goals and a plan for working toward those goals.

The primary modality that I use in individual therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. However, I am also influenced by the psychodynamic, humanistic-experiential and narrative modalities.
